Ruben Amorim has offered his support to Manchester United midfielder Manuel Ugarte ahead of their reunion at Old Trafford.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Ugarte joined Manchester United from Paris Saint-Germain in a £51 million ($60 million) deal this summer. However, the Uruguayan midfielder has had a challenging start in the Premier League, featuring in 10 games across all competitions but only starting in four. So far, he’s struggled to meet expectations.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Given the significant investment United made, fans anticipated an immediate impact from the 23-year-old defensive midfielder. Amorim, who will officially join United on Monday, has assured Ugarte of his full backing. The two previously worked together at Sporting CP, where Ugarte spent two seasons under Amorim’s guidance from 2021 to 2023.
WHAT RUBEN AMORIM SAID
Amorim expressed his confidence in Ugarte, stating, “All the Uruguayans I managed are incredible, and that’s why I love them. Ugarte is a very talented boy with a lot of potential. I am very happy to have him back at Man United.”
WHAT’S NEXT FOR AMORIM?
Amorim will lead Sporting CP one last time on Sunday against Braga in Liga Portugal. His debut as United’s manager will be after the international break, with an away match against Ipswich Town on November 24.
